Bart-Jan Wijsman

Nature is currently the starting point of Bart Jan Wijsman’s work. He draws inspiration from bird murmurations those mesmerizing moments when thousands of starlings move together in fluid, ever-changing patterns across the sky. These shifting formations are not only visually striking, but also driven by instinct, protection, and collective rhythm.

This sense of movement and connection is central to his practice. Bart Jan Wijsman, a Dutch abstract artist, explores depth, motion, and reflection through carefully layered surfaces. His panels bring bold colours into dialogue with light, while reflection and refraction create a subtle, almost meditative three-dimensional effect.

His palette often grows out of deep blues and greens, echoing the natural world, and is balanced with deliberate contrasts that introduce tension and rhythm. Rather than demanding attention, his work invites a slower way of looking encouraging the viewer to pause, to observe, and to let colour and form unfold over time.

Bart Jan Wijsman has already exhibited successfully at Galerie Chez Freddy Art & Design, Battersea AAF, KnockKnock Art Fair and Meeting Art in Knokke.
